Upcoming 2009 FFF Conclave
This year will be a great opportunity to attend a National Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) Conclave as it will be held in Loveland, Colorado, from 28 July to 1 August.
Why go to a conclave? Well, first, it is a lot like the annual Fly Fishing Show in Denver. There are many free programs, demonstrations, and seminars on a variety of fishing topics. Also there are in-depth workshops on casting, fishing techniques, fly tying, entomology, rod building, etc. Fly tying and casting classes are extensive! Each year there are guide trips offered with local guides (sign up early as these go fast.) There are also activities, workshops, and tours for non-fishing family members. The exhibition hall has displays from a variety of organizations, manufacturers, and vendors, as well as raffles and a silent auction. There will be a photo contest as well. There are several social events each year including the President’s Dinner, an auction, and casting games. The conclave is great place to visit with other anglers and fly tiers, make new friends, and get reacquainted with old ones.
Pre-registration begins sometime in April and extends through mid June. Specific dates for registration aren’t posted yet, but I highly recommend you check the web site starting around the second week of April for information on events, classes and workshops. Sign up early to ensure you get the workshops you want. However, you can always sign up at the door for a daily pass or to join open classes. It’s a great learning experience and lots of fun!
